How to Pray: Sunday Series
For one Sunday each month, September-December, FCC is turning one of our services into an experiential workshop on prayer. We’ll look at teachings on prayer, ancient and modern, explore the difference between piety and devotion, and try out praying together in different ways. Belief is not a requirement - only curiosity. We’ve been developing a supportive, exploratory, nonjudgmental vibe and we’d love to share the experience with you.

Sunday Supper
You're invited to be part of a new gathering at Florence Congregational Church. We think life is better with potlucks! So each month, bring something to share (does NOT have to be fancy!), enjoy getting to know other community-minded folks, and make life a little less isolated for yourself and others. The only way to meet more people is to come out and meet them! We'll even have conversation starters to get you going.

Yearnings: Music that Moves Beyond Borders
Yearnings is a one-of-a-kind concert that brings together incredible singers from Black, Hindu, Jewish, Native American, and Sufi traditions—each sharing music rooted in their heritage and spirit. Backed by an all-star band of local musicians, these sings will explore how songs from such different places can carry the same deep message: we are all connected.
Just like the audience, the evening is an opportunity for local musicians to share and savor their distinct styles of creative expression. With a band that includes Grammy and Urban Music Award winners, educators, radio personalities, human rights advocates, and even scholars of divinity, Yearnings offers an experience that’s as inspiring as it is entertaining.
It is both a celebration of unity and a much-needed antidote to division. How can you miss it?

Seeds of Hope: A Community Sing and Seed Exchange
We are only as strong as the connections between us. Singing and sharing bring us out of isolation, turning strangers into friends. You’re invited to gather with neighbors, nurture our shared need for human connection, and exchange seeds as we welcome the new growing season together.
You don’t need to be a “good singer” — you don’t even need to read music. We’ll teach simple, soulful songs from a variety of traditions, both spiritual and secular. After all, some researchers believe humans sang together before we even had language — it’s a part of who we are.
And you don’t need to be a gardener, farmer, or green thumb, either. If you have seeds (or starts) to share, bring them along! We’ll bless the seeds with our voices, and together, we’ll plant the beginnings of food, flowers, friendships, and a stronger community.
Join us for the potluck at 5:30 pm — a monthly gathering hosted by Florence Church as part of reimagining what a church can be for its community. The singing and seed exchange begin at 7:00 pm, with a special seed craft activity for kids. We’ll wrap up by 8:30 pm.
Come sing, share, and grow with us — hope starts here.

Cine Concert: The Ancient Law Featuring Alicia Svigals and Donald Sosin
The Ancient Law, (Das Alte Gesetz) Ewald André Dupont’s 1923 silent masterpiece, is the moving story of the rupture between a rabbi and his son in a Polish shtetl, when the young man abruptly leaves to become an actor in Vienna. With its fascinating attention to cultural detail, and ensemble of some of the great actors of the day, the film still resonates deeply with audiences in its 100th anniversary year.
The film has been newly restored with an original score by master silent film pianist Donald Sosin and violinist Alicia Svigals who will perform live with the film for a unique cine-concert experience.

Wisdom's Many Faces: Making Contemporary Icons and Patron Saints for These Times
Is it comfort you need?
A reminder to not take yourself so seriously?
Are you grieving?
Do you seek a word of wisdom?
Do you need a reminder of your Belovedness?
Religious icons are a painting of a saint or depicting a scene from sacred texts. Throughout history, they have been used as tools to focus in contemplation or prayer, invoking the presence of that saint into one's home or life. Traditionally, they were ornate, with rich, saturated pigments as well as lots of gold.
